Nokia unveils Windows smartphones

NOKIA Corp has unveiled its first Windows-based phones in a bid to recapture lost ground to chief rivals in the tough top end smartphone market.
CEO Stephen Elop said today in London that the Lumia 800 and 710, based on Microsoft Corp's Windows software, will be accompanied by four other smartphones, including for emerging markets, aimed at helping connect the next billion to the internet.
Nokia, claiming 1.3 billion daily users, has been losing the smartphone race as it is squeezed in the low end by Asian manufacturers like ZTE and in the high end by the Apple Inc's Phone, Research in Motion's Blackberry and Google's Android devices.
Nokia stock was up 3 per cent at 4.95 euro in Helsinki.
